The observer

I am a Dutch photographer based in Porto, Portugal. Over the past decades I have lived and worked in Europe and Asia, including many years in Hong Kong and Vietnam, where daily life, movement and human behaviour became central themes in my work.

My photography moves between documentary, street and fine art. Rather than searching for dramatic events, I am drawn to quieter moments, visual tension, patterns, isolation, repetition and the subtle relationship between people and their environment. Much of my work explores observation itself: how individuals move through crowded spaces, how order and chaos coexist, and how ordinary scenes can reveal something unexpected when seen differently.

Alongside personal projects, I have worked commercially in areas including editorial, travel, real estate and documentary photography. My work has appeared in magazines, books, exhibitions and tourism campaigns.

For more than a decade I also guided and taught photography through photo tours and workshops, working with photographers from around the world. Teaching photography strengthened my belief that photography is not only about technique, but about learning to slow down, observe and recognise moments that often go unnoticed.

Whether photographing dense urban traffic in Vietnam, fleeting interactions in the street, or minimalist studies of light and geometry, my work is rooted in patience, observation and atmosphere.
