A chance

In 2008 and 2009, I worked on a reportage about child surgery for an NGO in Dien Bien Phu, Vietnam. Hundreds of children came with their parents, hoping to be selected for treatment.

In rural communities, where life depends on physical labour, children with birth defects face a difficult future. Their ability to work, marry, and build a family is often limited.

Surgery offered the possibility of a different path.
