Nuoi
This is Nuoi. I met her when scouting areas for my photo tours. She has incredibly long hair, which she always conceals. She lives alone, her husband died a long time ago. Why, I will never know, but voluntarily she untied her hair, just for me.
She became a favourite on my photo tours. Every time I arrived with a group she untied her hair, combed, and allowed everybody to take photographs.
At the end I always gave her a percentage of what each of my clients paid. Later she said it helped her a lot getting by.
At Vietnamse New Year I always stopped by with some gifts.
It must not be easy to have such long hair in the long hot sticky Vietnamese Summers.
Because she had no space, part of her kitchen was outside.
Nuoi lived in a house which was just over two metres wide. Around 1995 she bought the land for just 150,000 VND (5 euros). After the roof collapsed in 2018 her son helped her with financing a new house. Just as narrow, but now with better facilities and with two floors.
